Attack on Kyiv: Kyiv Pechersk Lavra on fire after precise strike – photos

A fire has broken out on the grounds of the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra following a large-scale Russian attack on the city of Kyiv.

Details: Klitschko reported a fire on the grounds of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, including on the roof of the Dormition Cathedral.

Early reports from Tkachenko indicated that the fire had been caused by a precise strike.

Quote from Tkachenko: "A fire on buildings within the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra complex has been confirmed. Early reports indicate it was caused by a precise hit.

We are currently assessing the extent of the damage inflicted by the Russians. Measures are being taken to contain the fire in accordance with safety protocols."

Update: Tkachenko later reported significant damage to the Lavra.

Quote from Tkachenko: "According to operational information, the damage on the grounds of the Lavra is substantial and there is a major fire. The Russians deliberately struck at the heart of one of the largest Christian shrines."

Details: Yevstratii Zoria, spokesperson for the autocephalous Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU), posted photographs of the fire at the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra.

The National Preserve Kyiv Pechersk Lavra later posted photographs showing firefighters tackling the blaze.

Update: The State Emergency Service reported that the fire had covered 800 sq m of roof space at the Dormition Cathedral.
