Midas energy corruption probe: bail posted for former energy minister Halushchenko, UP sources say

Bail of UAH 150 million (US$3.3 million) has been posted for former energy minister Herman Halushchenko, a suspect in the Midas case, the investigation into corruption in Ukraine's energy sector.

Details: Sources told Ukrainska Pravda that the bail was posted by four companies: Tetras Optima LLC (UAH 54 million/US$1.2 million), Hiran Contract LLC (UAH 87 million/US$1.9 million), Skait Retail LLC (UAH 5 million/US$111,500) and Pelet Service LLC (UAH 4 million/US$89,000).

Background:

  • UP sources reported that UAH 105 million (US$2.4 million) had been raised for bail by the end of 26 June.
  • The sources said the bail money was being posted by legal entities.
  • Earlier, the High Anti-Corruption Court of Ukraine extended Halushchenko's detention but reduced his bail from UAH 200 million (US$4.5 million) to UAH 150 million.
