Details: The MiG-29 was hit at Belbek airfield on the night of 25-26 June 2026. Pilots from the DIU's Unmanned Systems Department carried out the strike on the fighter jet.
Quote: "As a result of the operation, a Russian MiG-29 fighter jet has been destroyed. With one strike, DIU special forces also burned down an airfield launch unit – at the moment of the strike, the vehicle was servicing a combat aircraft belonging to the Russian occupiers."
Damage from the strike on the aircraft and the airfield launch unit could amount to tens of millions of dollars, DIU said. The military has also published a video of the strike.
For reference: The MiG-29 is a Soviet-era fourth-generation multirole fighter jet, capable of both interception and strike missions.
Background:
- It was reported earlier that in early July, the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) carried out a successful drone strike on the Saky and Hvardiiske military airbases in Russian-occupied Crimea, hitting seven aircraft.
- Ukraine's defence forces also hit another MiG-29 in Crimea in December last year.
