Zelenskyy and Trump to meet at NATO summit on 8 July

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and US President Donald Trump are scheduled to meet on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Ankara at 14:30 local time (the same as Kyiv time) on Wednesday 8 July.

Details: The meeting will take place after the session of the North Atlantic Council at the level of NATO heads of state and government, which is due to begin at 11:15 local time and last for about three hours.

According to the official schedule, one hour has been allocated for the Trump–Zelenskyy meeting.

At 15:30, Trump is scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with the President of Syria, followed by a press conference at 16:15 to conclude his participation in the NATO summit.

Background:

  • As previously reported by European Pravda, Zelenskyy has already arrived in Ankara for the NATO summit taking place on 7–8 July. His programme for 7 July includes an address at the Defence Industries Forum, a series of bilateral meetings, and attendance at a dinner hosted by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, which Trump is also expected to attend.
  • Media outlets had earlier reported that Trump and Zelenskyy would meet on the margins of the summit.
  • The final declaration of the NATO summit is expected to state that Russia poses a threat to Euro-Atlantic security and include a pledge by Alliance members to provide Ukraine with €70 billion in military assistance annually in 2026 and 2027.
  • A meeting of the NATO–Ukraine Council at the level of foreign ministers will also take place during the summit.
