Ukraine's Khartiia commander survives assassination attempt, Zelenskyy promises response

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said that an assassination attempt on Khartiia commander Ihor Obolenskyi was foiled on 31 July.

Quote: "I spoke with Ihor Obolenskyi, Commander of the Khartiia Brigade. There was an assassination attempt against Ihor today – the attacker and his accomplice have been detained. The necessary procedural measures are underway."

Details: Zelenskyy received a report on the matter from Oleksandr Poklad, acting head of the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU).

Zelenskyy said this attempt to strike at Ukraine and at a Ukrainian commander will definitely be responded to.

Zelenskyy thanked Obolenskyi for his service and wished him to hit the Russians even harder.

Background: On 15 July, Khartiia Corps commander Ihor Obolienskyi, also known as Kornet, was awarded the state title Hero of Ukraine.
