Fire breaks out after drone attack at Belgorod university developing UAVs – photos, video

A university in the Russian city of Belgorod has caught fire following a drone attack.

Details: Astra said the fire had broken out in a building at the V. G. Shukhov Belgorod State Technological University, where UAVs were being developed and tested.

The university was developing an automated UAV control system based on the Milandr microprocessor. It was reportedly intended for "civilian purposes", including monitoring power lines, heating pipelines and conducting aerial photography.

Astra also reported that this summer the university had launched an educational programme for schoolchildren focused on drone development.

So far, the Russian authorities have not reported the consequences of the incident. The regional operational headquarters issued several warnings about the threat of drone strikes overnight.

Background: Drones struck Russian-occupied Crimea on the night of 2-3 August. Explosions were reported in the Saky district, Feodosiia, Simferopol and Kerch.
