Ukrainian drone attack shuts down another major oil refinery in Russia

Saratov oil refinery belonging to Rosneft, a Russian state-controlled energy company, has completely halted oil processing after a Ukrainian drone attack damaged production facilities and caused fires.

Details: The plant's only primary oil processing unit, AVT-6, has been out of operation since 2 August. Restoring the facility could take two to three weeks.

For reference: The refinery has a capacity of 7 million tonnes of oil a year. It produces more than 1 million tonnes of petrol and almost 2 million tonnes of diesel fuel annually. After the shutdown, the plant stopped selling fuel on the St Petersburg exchange.

This is the second major Russian oil refinery to halt fuel production since the beginning of August. On 3 August, Lukoil's Volgograd refinery, one of the 10 largest in Russia and responsible for about 5% of the country's oil refining, also stopped operating.

In July, drone attacks halted operations at eight refineries in Russia, including the country's largest, the Omsk refinery, as well as the Ryazan and Nizhny Novgorod refineries.
