Zelenskyy meets Serbian PM: winter preparations and reconstruction discussed

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with Serbian Prime Minister Đuro Macut in Belgrade on 8 August.

Details: As Zelenskyy noted, during the meeting he briefed the head of the Serbian government on the consequences of Russian missile and drone strikes, including the latest large-scale attack that night.

"We discussed in detail our joint economic and logistics projects: the development of the Danube Corridor and the strengthening of ties between Ukraine, the Western Balkans and the European Union," the president stated.

Winter preparations were also discussed at the meeting. Zelenskyy thanked Serbia for its decision to allocate €2 million in support of Ukraine's energy sector.

Serbia's participation in the reconstruction of Ukraine was also discussed. Zelenskyy expressed gratitude to Serbia for its readiness to contribute to the restoration of one of Ukraine's affected cities.

Background: Zelenskyy had earlier held talks with Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, during which they spoke about "concrete things that can add resilience to our infrastructure", as well as economic development, reconstruction, and job creation in Ukraine and Serbia. Following a conversation with Vučić in May, Zelenskyy stated that both leaders see potential for developing relations between Ukraine and Serbia.
