Quote: "I arrived in Serbia with my team. Important talks are scheduled for today and tomorrow – with President Aleksandar Vučić and Prime Minister Đuro Macut. We will discuss expanding economic ties between our countries, relations with the European Union, other areas that can benefit our nations, and security issues. Ukraine is always ready to work constructively, for mutual benefit and on the basis of mutual respect."

Details: Belgrade announced earlier that Zelenskyy would visit Serbia for the first time since Russia's full-scale invasion and indeed during his presidency.

The visit has been under discussion for some time.

Zelenskyy is expected to meet his Serbian counterpart Aleksandar Vučić during the trip.

Background:

  • In July, Aleksandar Vučić visited Kyiv with other leaders for the Ukraine-Southeast Europe Summit.
  • Vučić said at the summit that he was "not entirely" satisfied with how Serbia had helped Ukraine. However, he once again declined to sign the summit's joint declaration on continued political, military, financial and security support for Ukraine and increased pressure on Russia.
  • Over the past few months, Taras Kachka, then Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration, and Ruslan Stefanchuk, speaker of the Verkhovna Rada (Ukrainian parliament), have also visited Serbia.
