Ukraine responds to drone explosion incident in Bulgaria

Ukraine's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has commented on the incident involving a drone explosion that occurred on 8 August near a compressor station of the Trans-Balkan gas pipeline in Bulgaria.

Details: As Tykhyi noted, Ukraine is in close contact with the Bulgarian side to clarify the circumstances.

"We can say with certainty that Ukraine's defence forces did not deliberately direct any assets towards Bulgaria. We are currently establishing all the circumstances of what happened and all the technical facts," he said.

Meanwhile, Tykhyi stated that Ukraine is fully open to cooperation with Bulgaria to clarify the details.

"It is important to note that the root cause of all incidents of this kind is Russia's war against Ukraine, which has been ongoing for five years, is being deliberately prolonged by Moscow and threatens not only Ukrainians but, unfortunately, other nations and countries as well. This is why ending the war as soon as possible is critically important for ensuring regional security, and we count on joint efforts with our partners to compel Moscow to peace," Tykhyi concluded.

• Earlier, Bulgarian Prime Minister Rumen Radev stated that the drone entered Bulgarian airspace from Romania and subsequently exploded about 1,000 metres from the compressor station of the Trans-Balkan gas pipeline, near the former Kardam border checkpoint between the two countries.
• Subsequently, Bulgaria's Ministry of Defence said that a preliminary analysis of the debris indicates that it was most likely a Maya decoy drone.
• Drones of this type are widely used by the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the ministry added.
