Russian attack damages sculptor Katib Mamedov's home in Kharkiv – photos

The home of Ukrainian sculptor Katib Mamedov, who is of Azerbaijani origin, has been damaged in a Russian attack on Kharkiv. The house caught fire, but the artist was not injured.

Quote from Mamedov: "We were in the kitchen on the ground floor, talking. Then there was an explosion – a powerful explosion – and everything went flying. We went outside and saw that the strike had hit nearby, about ten metres away, on the other side of the wall. It hit close by; our home was damaged by the fire."

Details: Mamedov said his home contains works he has created over the past 40 years, ranging from classical to avant-garde pieces.

The artist was born in 1963 near Ganja, Azerbaijan. In 1988, he enrolled in the sculpture faculty at the Kharkiv Art and Industrial Institute. Immediately after graduating in 1993, he began teaching in the sculpture department at what is now the Kharkiv State Academy of Design and Arts.

Mamedov holds the titles of People's Artist of Ukraine and Honoured Artist of Ukraine. He has participated in exhibitions since 1990.
