Ukraine's Defence Ministry has approved the TAF Kolibri-i10 interceptor drone developed by TAF Industries for use in the defence forces.

Details: The drone can now be purchased through the DOT-Chain Defence system, including with e-Points, which are earned by Ukrainian units for confirmed strikes on Russian soldiers and equipment.

The developers said the TAF Kolibri-i10 interceptor features a new, more durable frame that can better withstand loads and has optimised mounting points. It has also been fitted with more powerful motors, a more secure camera mount and high-speed propellers, while its overall aerodynamics have been improved.

The drone can reach speeds of more than 200 km/h, has a range of up to 25 km, can remain airborne for over 20 minutes and can operate at altitudes reaching 3,000 metres. The UAV costs UAH 31,700 (US$709) with a digital daytime camera and UAH 64,500 (US$1,442) with a digital night camera.

The company said manual control gives operators full control at critical moments, while digital daytime or night cameras enable the drone to operate in different conditions. Its MilELRS firmware is designed to ensure stable operation amid active electronic warfare.

TAF Industries said the idea for the TAF Kolibri-i10 emerged from practical experience using the Kolibri 10 FPV drone to intercept Russian fixed-wing drones. According to the manufacturer, the TAF Kolibri-i10 is primarily designed to destroy Russian reconnaissance and kamikaze drones, including Molniya, Orlan and Zala UAVs.

The company added that the interceptor can therefore help prevent attacks on Ukrainian positions, provide cover for combat operations and protect facilities both in frontline areas and further behind the front.

Background: Earlier this spring, TAF Industries signed a memorandum with Finnish company Summa Defence to scale up drone production. The partnership envisages joint production using Summa's manufacturing infrastructure and technological ecosystem in Finland as part of the Build with Ukraine initiative.
