Ukrainian Railways report on situation with train delays from Russian attacks

Passengers on several Ukrzaliznytsia trains (Ukrainian Railways) will be transferred to other routes travelling to their destinations, while some trains from Przemyśl, Dnipro, Kharkiv, Kyiv and Lviv will depart with significant delays.

Details: According to the company, no long-distance trains have been cancelled, and delays are gradually being reduced. However, the consequences of prolonged air-raid warnings and Russian attacks will continue to affect services for at least another day.

Transfers on the final section of routes are necessary to speed up the turnaround of carriages and locomotives and return services to schedule, Ukrzaliznytsia explained.

Until the morning of 29 August, passengers may use paid waiting lounges at railway stations free of charge. Passengers can warm up, drink tea and charge their phones there.

Background:

• Due to the aftermath of combat operations, Ukrzaliznytsia trains experienced significant delays – for example, the Kharkiv-Chełm train was running 11 hours and 30 minutes late in the morning, while the Sumy-Kyiv train was 17 hours and 15 minutes late.
• Ukrzaliznytsia reported that on trains delayed by more than five hours due to Russian attacks, meals are being organised for passengers and railway workers at intermediate stations together with World Central Kitchen.
• The company also advises passengers to bring a supply of water and snacks before setting off, as journeys may take longer than planned due to the security situation.
