Russian attacks cause rail delays of over 10 hours

Trains operated by Ukrzaliznytsia (Ukrainian Railways), the state-run rail operator, are running with significant delays due to Russia's attacks on Ukraine. The worst-affected trains are those departing from frontline areas that have been subjected to Russian attacks for several consecutive days.

Details: Rolling stock is halted when the risk level is heightened. Passengers are urged to follow evacuation procedures, proceed to a shelter or move to a safe distance from infrastructure – at least 100 m away.

Damage to railway tracks is also contributing to delays, forcing trains to be rerouted.

Suburban trains have also been delayed.

Ukrainian Railways said that, working with World Central Kitchen, it is arranging meals for passengers and staff on trains delayed by more than five hours because of Russian attacks at one of the intermediate stations.

The company is also advising passengers to make sure they have water and snacks with them before setting off, as the security situation may mean journeys take longer than planned.

Background: Russian strikes have damaged 492 locomotives and 249 carriages belonging to Ukrainian Railways since the start of the full-scale invasion. A government action programme envisages repairing 70% of the damaged locomotives.
