Ukraine hits one of Russia's five largest oil refineries – video

Ukraine's Special Operations Forces (SOF) attacked the Yaroslavl oil refinery in Russia's Yaroslavl Oblast on the night of 27-28 August. The facility is among the five largest in Russia by primary oil processing volume.

Quote: "On the night of 27-28 August, Deep Strike units of the Special Operations Forces, in coordination with the Unmanned Systems Forces and Ukraine's Defence Intelligence, struck the Yaroslavl oil refinery (Slavneft-YANOS)".

Details: A major fire broke out at the facility as a result of the attack.

SOF reported that the Yaroslavl oil refinery is among the five largest in Russia by primary oil processing volume – approximately 15 million tonnes per year.

The plant is one of the main producers of motor petrol, high-quality diesel fuel, aviation kerosene and jet engine fuel.

Background:

• On the morning of 28 August, drones attacked Moscow and Russia's Yaroslavl Oblast. Russian authorities reported air defence activity; a section of the M8 motorway in Yaroslavl Oblast was closed due to the attack, and black smoke was spotted in the area of Pavlovsky Posad near Moscow.
• This is not the first attack on the Yaroslavl oil refinery. The plant has been struck at least six times, including at the beginning of August.
