Drones attack Moscow and Yaroslavl Oblast: motorway closed to traffic, smoke seen near Moscow – video

Drones have attacked the city of Moscow and Yaroslavl Oblast in Russia on the morning of 28 August. Russian authorities have reported that air defence was responding, while a section of the M8 motorway in Yaroslavl Oblast has been closed to traffic and black smoke has been seen near Pavlovsky Posad in Moscow Oblast.

Details: Yevrayev reported a "drone threat" in Yaroslavl Oblast and said the Russian military and security forces were working to repel the attack.

Quote from Yevrayev: "Units from the Defence Ministry and security agencies are working to repel the attack."

Details: A section of the M8 motorway towards Moscow has been closed to traffic because of the attack. Some public transport services in Yaroslavl have been rerouted or their routes shortened.

Yevrayev said intercity buses whose routes run along the closed section of the M8 motorway are temporarily not running.

He did not say which facilities had been targeted. Meanwhile, Astra reported that photographs allegedly showing the aftermath of the attack had appeared on social media, with windows smashed in some buildings.

Drones also attacked Moscow and Moscow Oblast. Sobyanin claimed that Russian air defence forces had shot down two drones flying towards the Russian capital.

Quote from Sobyanin: "Two UAVs flying towards Moscow were destroyed by the Defence Ministry's air defence system. Emergency services are working at the site where the debris fell."

Details: Astra reported that black smoke had risen over Pavlovsky Posad in Moscow Oblast following the attack. The cause of the smoke is currently unknown.

A red alert level was also issued in Russia's Vladimir and Ivanovo oblasts and in the south-east of Moscow Oblast.
