Ukraine's Defence Intelligence strikes Russian Novatek-Ust-Luga complex supporting war against Ukraine

Ukraine's Defence Intelligence has confirmed that the Novatek-Ust-Luga complex in Russia's Leningrad Oblast, near St Petersburg, was struck on the morning of 1 September.

Quote: "On 1 September 2026, operators from the Active Operations Department and the Unmanned Systems Department of Ukraine's Defence Intelligence, as part of a joint deep-strike operation with Ukraine's defence forces, struck the Novatek-Ust-Luga complex in Russia's Leningrad Oblast."

Details: Key components of the oil processing unit and technological equipment were hit. The attack also caused a large-scale fire at the plant.

The production and transshipment complex is designed for the fractionation and processing of stable gas condensate. Its capacity is almost 8 million tonnes of feedstock per year.

DIU noted that the facility is involved in supporting Russia's war against Ukraine.

Background:

• Ust-Luga is one of Russia's largest commercial seaports on the Baltic Sea. Ust-Luga has repeatedly been targeted by drone attacks. Significant volumes of strategic cargo, including oil, petroleum products, coal and mineral fertilisers, pass through the port.
• The port area is home to major industrial and transshipment facilities, including sites operated by Russian companies Novatek and EuroChem. Earlier, units of Ukraine's defence forces hit the Novatek-Ust-Luga on the night of 13-14 August, causing a large fire at the facility.
• On the morning of 1 September, photos and videos emerged on Telegram channels showing a fire at the port of Ust-Luga following a drone attack. The governor of Russia's Leningrad Oblast later confirmed the attack and the fire.
