Four ballistic missiles hit Zaporizhzhia Steelworks, causing critical damage

Russia has attacked Zaporizhstal (Zaporizhzhia Steelworks), a major steel and iron manufacturing plant in the city of Zaporizhzhia, with ballistic missiles for the third time in a month. Four employees have been injured, and the plant, which has still not resumed production following previous strikes, has sustained further damage.

Details: Four missiles hit a production site at the plant, damaging the main and auxiliary equipment of the blast-furnace and open-hearth shops, the power system, utility networks and logistics infrastructure.

Three employees with moderate injuries were taken to hospital. Another refused hospitalisation after receiving medical treatment and stayed to help deal with the aftermath of the strike.

"It is not yet possible to fully assess the scale of the destruction, but our early assessment is that the damage is critical," said Oleksandr Myronenko, Chief Operating Officer at Metinvest Group.

Since the plant has not been operating after the previous attacks, there is no risk of an industrial accident. The number of employees on site had already been significantly reduced.

Background:

• It was reported previously that Zaporizhstal has suspended operations completely following a Russian ballistic missile strike. Seven employees were killed and another 21 people were injured.
• Later, Russian forces carried out fresh strikes on Zaporizhstal, hitting the same location where plant workers were killed in a previous Russian attack on 11 August.
• In December 2025, a Russian attack on energy infrastructure completely cut power to Zaporizhstal, which forced an emergency shutdown of production. In January, the plant again halted all production processes after losing its external power supply following a Russian attack.
