Theatre actor and musician Kostiantyn Slobodeniuk killed in action

Kostiantyn Slobodeniuk, an actor at the Chernihiv Oblast Youth Theatre and a musician at the Chernihiv Oblast Philharmonic Centre, has been killed in action.

Details: "He was known in the city as a talented player of the sopilka [a woodwind folk instrument – ed.] with the regional philharmonic centre for festivals and concert programmes, and as an actor at the Youth Theatre," the theatre team recalled.

At the Chernihiv Youth Theatre, Slobodeniuk performed in productions of Trees Die Standing Tall, Cassandra, The Magic Lantern, Ocean of Dreams, Shelter and Rear What? A Diary. He also appeared in Tartuffe, Pollyanna and The Mind-Bending Adventure of Mr Allen.

Slobodeniuk was also a musician and sopilka player at the Chernihiv Regional Philharmonic Centre for Festivals and Concert Programmes.

The Chernihiv Philharmonic Centre wrote: "We are proud of Kostiantyn's many years of creative collaboration with the Siverski Kleinody Academic Song and Dance Ensemble and the Concert Performers Ensemble, and we will always be grateful for the significant contribution he made to the artistic life of our centre. The cherished memory of this warrior and artist will live forever in our hearts."

The funeral service for Kostiantyn Slobodeniuk will take place at 12:30 on Tuesday 15 September at the Cathedral of St Catherine the Great Martyr in Chernihiv.
