Ukrainian foreign minister discusses signing Drone Deal during Iceland visit

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha has visited Iceland, where he discussed, among other things, Russia's intensified hybrid attacks against Europe and speeding up the signing of a Drone Deal with Reykjavik.

Details: Sybiha said he had productive talks with Icelandic Foreign Minister Þorgerður Katrín Gunnarsdóttir. The foreign minister said he briefed his counterpart on the situation in Ukraine, Russia's terror, the blockade in the Black Sea and ongoing efforts to achieve peace.

The ministers discussed the implementation of agreements reached during President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's visit to Iceland and agreed to "accelerate preparations for the signing of the Drone Deal between our countries".

Sybiha told Gunnarsdóttir that Ukraine is ready to share its experience in protecting critical infrastructure with Iceland.

They also discussed ways to deepen practical cooperation between Ukraine and the Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF).

Quote: "Ahead of the UNGA high-level week, we coordinated our positions on the most pressing international issues. We paid special attention to Russia's destabilising activities across Europe and ways to counter them."

Details: The minister thanked Gunnarsdóttir for her readiness to provide energy support to Ukraine ahead of winter.

Background:

• On 10 September, while travelling from Norway to Canada, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with Gunnarsdóttir to discuss energy cooperation.
• Before that, Zelenskyy and the First Lady had been in Norway. The main reason for the visit was the funeral of King Harald V, which was attended by many foreign dignitaries. At the same time, the Ukrainian president held a series of meetings, including with defence company executives to discuss the Freyja anti-ballistic programme.
