Canada allocates nearly C$863k in aid for Ukrainian prisoners of war

Canada will allocate an additional C$863,000 (approximately US$640,000) to support Ukrainians affected by Russian captivity and occupation.

Quote: "Today I am announcing more than C$863,000 in new funding to support Ukrainians repressed by Russia's horrific war. This includes support for survivors of conflict related sexual violence and Ukrainian civil society organisations working with returned civilians, prisoners of war and children, and their families as well."

Details: The minister recalled that earlier this month, Canada had already allocated approximately C$6 million to assist in the return of Ukrainian children illegally deported to Russia.

Quote: "And that includes support for reintegration, tracing and return efforts and work to counter the indoctrination, the militarisation and the recruitment of Ukrainian children. Together, these commitments bring Canada's support, specifically focused on Ukrainian children's return home, to nearly C$7 million."

Background: Earlier in September, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney announced that the country would allocate C$350 million (US$253 million) to purchase interceptor missiles for Ukraine's air defence systems.
