NASAMS and missiles: Zelenskyy announces new air defence support packages

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, commenting on another Russian attack on Ukrainian regions, including the capital, has thanked Ukraine's partners for strengthening the country's air defence.

Details: On Tuesday 29 September, Zelenskyy said that Ukraine had managed to intercept a ballistic missile with which Russia attacked Kyiv on the night of 28-29 September.

In this context, he thanked "our American and Norwegian partners for the NASAMS system and the package of missiles for it".

He also thanked France and Germany "for the air defence support package provided in recent days, specifically the missiles".

"Against the backdrop of Russia's daily escalation, it is important that the protection of life receive continuous support and that such packages continue to arrive," Zelenskyy stressed.

The Ukrainian president said the latest Russian attack damaged the depot at Kyiv-Pasazhyrskyi railway station, data centres, business centres and residential buildings. In Odesa Oblast, an educational institution, a student accommodation building and two foreign vessels were damaged.

He added that Kyiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Kharkiv, Sumy, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Zhytomyr, Volyn and Rivne oblasts also came under Russian attack overnight. Energy facilities, substations, civilian businesses and residential buildings were damaged.
