Russians launch repeat guided bomb strike on Sumy: total number injured rises to 19, including child

At least six people have been injured as a result of a repeat Russian guided bomb strike on Sumy at around 14:00 on Sunday 4 October. An earlier strike left 13 people injured, including a one-year-old boy.

Quote: "Before the city could recover from the previous attack, Russia again launched a massive airstrike on Sumy with six guided bombs at 14:00.

Hits were recorded at two locations in the Zarichnyi and Kovpakivskyi districts in Sumy. Houses came under attack.

Early reports indicate that six people have been injured, two of them seriously."

Details: Kryvosheyenko added that data regarding the number and condition of casualties is being gathered. Fires broke out at both locations.

Background:

  • Kryvosheienko reported that a one-year-old boy was injured in the previous airstrike on Sumy when Russian forces used four guided aerial bombs. The child was hospitalised in a non-critical condition. Another 12 people were injured and are receiving professional medical treatment, with no threat to their lives.
  • Damage was caused to seven apartment buildings, a car-parts shop, infrastructure facilities and approximately 25 cars.
  • On the morning of 4 October, Russian forces struck the Sumy with five guided bombs; early reports indicated that five people had been injured. 
  • It later emerged that Russian forces had also struck a business in Sumy's Kovpakivskyi district that morning. A 52-year-old worker was killed and three other employees were injured.
