Kremlin outraged by France's ballistic missile launch from nuclear submarine
The Kremlin has stated that it views France's launch of an M51.3 ballistic missile from a nuclear-powered submarine on 6 October as a "loud and clear message".
Source: Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, as cited by Russian news agency Interfax; European Pravda
Details: According to Peskov, Moscow believes that "any problems should be resolved through dialogue rather than demonstrative missile launches".
The spokesman for Putin, the leader of an aggressor state, once again expressed outrage that the European Union is building up its military capabilities "with the aim of turning into a military-political bloc".
Quote from Peskov: "This is bad because they are building their identity in the field of defence and security on the basis of confrontation with the Russian Federation. This is a dead end. As history shows, this leads to nothing good."
At the same time, he claimed that Russia is "monitoring all such plans and actions".
Background:
- The day before, France conducted a test launch of a new ballistic missile from the nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine Le Vigilant. French President Emmanuel Macron observed the test.
- In March, Macron delivered a speech on France's nuclear weapons doctrine, introducing the concept of "preventive deterrence", which provides for the deployment of French nuclear assets on the territory of allied countries.
