Details: A total of 1,646 new listings on the sanctions lists against Russia will be approved at a meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs Council on 12 October.
Quote from a European Pravda source: "Today, Coreper agreed on new packages of listings under the sanctions regime regarding Ukraine's territorial integrity. They will be formally approved by ministers at the EU Foreign Affairs Council meeting on Monday."
This will be the largest amount of sanctions approved all at once, containing the previously announced 1,569 sanctions listings targeting 743 individuals and 826 legal entities linked to Russia's military-industrial complex.
Separately, EU ambassadors agreed on another 77 listings related to the so-called elections to Russia's State Duma. This package includes, in particular, candidates who ran for seats in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine, as well as several representatives of electoral bodies.
Background:
- On 16 September, the European External Action Service (EEAS) presented a new proposal for a package of individual sanctions against Russia's military-industrial complex comprising 1,576 listings.
- On 22 September, the Council of the EU decided to extend the restrictive measures against those responsible for undermining or threatening the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine for another 36 months, but removed Russian oligarchs Alisher Usmanov and Mikhail Fridman from the list.
