Details: Trump wrote that he had just concluded a "highly successful discussion" with Putin, during which they agreed that Russia will immediately supply more than 300,000 tonnes of diesel fuel to the US and global markets, followed by another 500,000 tonnes during November and one million tonnes immediately afterwards.
Quote: "Additionally, based on the condition of their Diesel Refineries, Russia will then deliver, within a short period of time, 3,000,000 Tons of Diesel Fuel.
Between our TOTAL CONTROL of the Strait of Hormuz, and this great announcement on Russian Energy, Diesel Prices for Americans and, indeed, the World, will be COMING DOWN, IN RECORD NUMBERS, AND FAST!"
Details: Trump stressed that lowering prices for Americans was his top priority.
Update: The US Department of the Treasury, through its Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), has issued General Licence No. 135, authorising transactions involving the sale, delivery, unloading and import of Russian-origin diesel fuel.
Fuel prices are an important issue ahead of the US midterm elections to Congress, scheduled for 3 November.
