Details: The decision was adopted at a Ukraine-EU Intergovernmental Conference held after a meeting of the EU General Affairs Council.
"In this, the fourth Accession Conference with Ukraine, the Council opened Cluster 2 on Internal Market and Cluster 3 on Competitiveness and Inclusive Growth," Irish Minister for European Affairs Thomas Byrne announced.
"We encourage Ukraine to continue to implement necessary reforms, particularly in the area of Fundamentals," he added.
Background:
- Earlier, Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Vsevolod Chentsov said that concessions would be needed to open the remaining two negotiating clusters.
- All EU member states agreed to open negotiating clusters 2 and 3 for Ukraine on 12 October. To make this possible, the Ukrainian parliament approved amendments to the law on education to lift Hungary's veto.
