Quote: "Our European counterparts now know the minimum number of Patriot missiles needed for the winter package, to be honest. All the leaders have this package. Will the Europeans support us? Yes. I do not yet know in what quantities. I know some things about some countries.
Does Europe have enough PAC-2 and PAC-3 missiles for Ukraine to get through the winter? Yes, based on the figures I announced and the quantities we would like to receive for the winter."
Details: Zelenskyy also hopes that Ukraine and its European partners will be able to develop the Freyja missile defence system together.
Background:
- On 15 October, The Washington Post, citing two Ukrainian officials and a NATO representative, reported that Ukraine had completely run out of interceptor missiles for US-made Patriot air defence systems.
- In September, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said that the EU wants to develop a missile defence system with Ukraine based on the Freyja project. The EU also decided to launch a new programme for joint projects with Ukrainian companies.
