US President Donald Trump has said he did not give the order to restrict Ukraine's access to SpaceX's Starshield satellite technology.
Source: European Pravda, citing Trump during a conversation with journalists on Friday 16 October, quoted by Bloomberg
Details: Trump also said he does not believe American billionaire Elon Musk did it.
Quote: "It wasn't me, and I don't think it was Elon. I don't know if it was anybody. From what I understand, it's the same as it's always been."
Background:
- Reuters reported earlier that the order to restrict Starshield, a satellite system Ukraine uses for battlefield communications and to control interceptor drones, came directly from the White House.
- US Republican Senator Thom Tillis is seeking an investigation into the Pentagon's actions with regard to problems with Starlink satellite communications systems encountered by the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
- Axios previously reported that the White House denied any involvement with the restrictions on the operation of the Starlink satellite system in Ukraine, saying that it does not control SpaceX.
- Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Elon Musk's decision to restrict Starlink's functionality for Ukraine was a mistake that would result in human losses.
