Details: Ukraine's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) said that on Friday 23 October, an object was discovered near the entrance to the consular section of the Ukrainian Embassy in Washington, which American police classified as suspicious.
It is noted that for the safety of embassy staff and visitors, a decision was taken to temporarily evacuate and cordon off the area. American law enforcement officers and bomb disposal experts were called to the scene and are currently conducting the necessary checks.
Quote from the MFA: "The embassy, in coordination with the American side, will establish the circumstances of the incident."
Background:
- It is worth noting that relations between Ukraine and the US have recently been tense. In particular, The Wall Street Journal reported that it was Musk who gave the order to slow down the operation of Starlink in Ukraine.
- The WSJ, citing US and Ukrainian officials familiar with the matter, reported that Trump had called Musk and asked him to lift restrictions on the military version of Starlink in Ukraine.
- Trump himself refused to say whether it was he who called the owner of SpaceX.
- Politico reported that as of the morning of 23 October, the Ukrainian forces were still encountering speed limitations on Starlink systems despite Trump reporting the restoration of full-scale service operation.
