Details: Companies that have already joined the experimental project will be able to protect more than just their own facilities. It also envisages the transfer of air defence systems for use between authorised companies based on a joint decision with the Air Force Command.

The criteria for participation in the project now include the status of a Defence City resident and/or being designated as a critically important business by the Ministry of Defence.

Private air defence groups are now allowed to use manned aircraft. In addition, the government has regulated the use of warheads and electric detonators for interceptor drones by companies.

The minimum age for group members has been lowered from 21 to 18.

Private air defence will continue to operate under the control of the military command within the unified air defence system of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Background:

  • As of 14 October, the number of participants in the private air defence project had grown to almost 100 companies.
  • A total of about 50 air defence groups have been formed. Groups from six companies have carried out combat missions, destroying over 60 aerial targets.
