How Ukrainska Pravda will use artificial intelligence
Like other media outlets, Ukrainska Pravda is actively exploring the potential of generative artificial intelligence tools, including text, image, and voice generators, to expand our editorial capabilities.
While AI software cannot replace humans in journalism, it can help in various aspects of content creation and presentation. Here's how we plan to use these technologies.
Text Generation
We do not publish articles, columns, or news stories generated by AI, except where the purpose of the content is to showcase AI-generated text.
AI may be used to suggest headlines or short texts for social media posts. However, these suggestions are manually approved by editors to ensure accuracy and compliance with editorial standards.
AI can help generate ideas for articles during brainstorming sessions. While this can save time, we recognize that it can also lead to misleading conclusions. The final decision on whether to implement an idea remains with a human.
If AI tools are used for research or analysis, they will only serve as additional aids. AI in this case should be considered a starting point, similar to Google search.
Generating translations
Ukrainian Pravda is selectively exploring the field of AI technologies for translation. We rely primarily on translators to ensure the highest quality and contextual accuracy of our content.
AI is used in translation infrequently and primarily to help our translators find the most appropriate words. We strive to maintain the integrity of our content and will openly report instances of AI use for translation.
Content editing using AI is prohibited. We believe that editing is a painstaking and multi-level process, of which humans are an integral part. Only human judgment can take into account both the subject matter of the material and the readership.
Image Generation
We do not use AI-generated images as a replacement for stock photos until there are transparent mechanisms for compensating photographers.
Ukrainian Pravda may publish AI-generated images or videos to illustrate certain stories or use them on social media. In such cases, we will openly label the use of generative AI.
We or the artists we collaborate with may use AI tools to generate ideas. This process is similar to visual brainstorming, where prompts inspire creativity. However, any AI-generated concepts will still require artists to create original images using their standard creative methods, rather than reproducing what AI suggests.
Voice Generation
"Ukrainian Truth" is expanding the use of artificial intelligence technology, including the voice-over of podcasts that were originally recorded in Ukrainian. All content for voice-over was prepared by our translators and editors.
We strive for transparency and will openly inform our audience about the use of voices generated or processed by artificial intelligence.
Historical audio documents (recordings of speeches, speeches, interviews with political and public figures, reportage audio recordings of witnesses of events, the authenticity of which the editorial office is able to confirm) cannot be edited using voice synthesis programs.
We do not use voice generators to edit such audio recordings if this may cause the audience to have a distorted idea of the true course of historical events. Voice synthesis programs are used exclusively within the framework of reconstructions, popular science, educational and entertainment materials, and all finished materials with such recordings will contain a label stating that the audio recordings were partially or fully created using voice synthesis programs.
"Ukrainian Pravda" strives to keep up with technology, while maintaining ethical and responsible journalistic practices. We recognize that AI has limitations, can miss or distort important information. Therefore, our work remains completely human-centric. A person and only a person will evaluate the effectiveness of artificial intelligence tools and make decisions about the publication of any product created or processed by AI.
At the same time, all exclusive property copyrights to objects created or processed by AI belong to "Ukrainian Pravda". More details about the usage rules are provided at the link.
