Avakov Announced a New System of Police Education

Wednesday, 15 June 2016, 00:17

The system of police education in Ukraine will be seriously reformed and a number of changes to legislation are planned to enable this reform, the Minister of Internal Affairs Arsen Avakov said in an interview to Interfax Ukraine.

The Minister thinks that a regular police officer does not need to have a university degree. The announced plans include eliminating most of the existing police universities and establishing a two-stage police education system.

The first stage would be a police school that provides vocational training and enables its graduates to work as patrol officers. The second would be a university degree for those who want to progress to higher positions in the police force.
