The number of refugees who have fled Ukraine has reached 4 million.

This was announced on Wednesday by Filippo Grandi, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees.

"Refugees from Ukraine now amount to 4 million, five weeks after the start of the Russian attack," he said.
Grandi said that he had just arrived in Ukraine on a visit.

In the western Ukrainian city of Lviv, he will discuss ways to increase the support for people affected and displaced by the senseless war with the government, the UN and other partners.

Previously, the EU agreed a 10-point plan to support Ukrainian refugees, as well as those European Union countries that host the majority of them.

Meanwhile, the European Commission has set up a new system to channel private sector donations to Ukraine, Moldova and neighbouring EU member states to help refugees and internally displaced persons.
