Fedorov's Quote: "According to information acquired by law enforcement agencies and the Armed Forces of Ukraine, they (the Russian invaders - ed.) are planning to shoot at civilians, to disperse protesters, disperse objectors and do everything to provoke chaos and panic during the celebrations on 9 May. And then [they plan to] blame the Armed Forces of Ukraine and thereby commit provocations.

Our job is to prevent that."

Details : The Mayor emphasised that a curfew has been declared throughout the Zaporizhzhia region from the evening of 8 May to the morning of 10 May. He urged Melitopol residents not to take to the streets on Victory Day and not to join the provocations of the Russian occupiers.

According to Fedorov, collaborators are trying to involve the children of Melitopol residents in formal celebrations through school parent councils.

Also, the mayor of the city urged residents not to transfer payments for utilities to the accounts of the occupiers and not to bring cash to branches of the captured Oschadbank branch, because this money would simply be stolen.

Background:

  • In the occupied areas of Zaporizhzhia Oblast, the occupiers are trying to force Ukrainians to celebrate Victory Day by deceit and coercion. For example, in occupied Energodar, people are having their documents forcibly taken away with promises that these will be returned after they have attended the 9 May celebration.
  • Earlier, Fedorov reported that abductions of people by the occupiers are happening more and more often and urged the townspeople not to leave their homes if possible.
  • On 3 May, a scooter rigged with explosives exploded in the centre of Melitopol near a supermarket.
