A traffic jam of 130 vessels exporting Ukrainian grain has formed near the Danube delta

More than 130 vessels loaded with Ukrainian grain are waiting for passage at the entrance to Romania’s Sulina Canal.

The congestion is associated with the intensification of shipping for the export of Ukrainian grain through Romanian terminals.
Navigation in the area is further complicated by the fact that the Sulina Canal is one-way. Therefore, ships can wait for passage for weeks.
Opening up passage for ships through the Bystre estuary could also help to "relieve" the canal after Russian Federation troops were driven from Zmiinyi (Snake) Island by the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
It is worth noting that navigation through Bystre will still not be able to provide Ukraine with even a fraction of the exports that were previously carried out through its ports. The depth of the estuary does not allow large dry cargo ships with grain to pass through.
