Details: Oleh Zhdanov, a military expert, and Conflict Intelligence Team (CIT) investigators confirmed the information for the journalists.

The photo of the rocket that hit the building was published on the "Zhest Belgorod" Telegram channel.

Some media outlets suppose that Russia could have hit its own rocket with its air defence system while launching attacks on Ukraine, and the debris of the rocket fell on a residential district.

Background: Vyacheslav Gladkov, the governor of Belgorod Oblast in Russia, claimed that there had been a string of "loud noises" in Belgorod. At the moment four fatalities have been confirmed.

Gladkov did not specify what exactly happened: he stated that it was likely the "air defence system in action", but he did not specify what caused fire.

Explosions were also heard at night in the Russian city of Kursk. The governor of the Kursk region reported that it was the air defence system in action.
