The external power supply of the nuclear power plant was disconnected on Tuesday morning due to Russians damaging the Dniprovska substation. Station personnel used backup diesel generators to perform tasks that were vital for the safety of the nuclear facility.

Background:

On Wednesday morning, the Dniprovska substation in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast was damaged as a result of rockets fired by Russian troops; thus, the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant was left without power.

The 750kW ZNPP-Dniprovska communication line is the only one that connects the ZNPP with the energy system of Ukraine. The rest, both the main and reserve lines, were damaged by Russian missile strikes.
