Mobile communication in Kherson is provided by Starlink terminals

Monday, 14 November 2022, 14:31

The first base stations of mobile operators in Kherson are operating on Starlink generators and terminals due to the lack of electricity.

This was reported by Mykhailo Fedorov, Minister of Digital Transformation, on Telegram

"People who have been under occupation for nine months were finally able to call their relatives and say that they are fine. While the city has a problem with other infrastructure, even a minute-long conversation helps the people of Kherson to feel at home again," the minister wrote.

Fedorov added that the Ministry of Digital Transformation is urgently delivering terminals to the liberated settlements.

"Starlink terminals are helping to maintain connectivity while operators repair the damaged optical cable," explained Fedorov.

The minister added that as they retreated, the occupiers destroyed some infrastructure and mined the rest. Employees of Ukraine’s State Emergency Service are finding tripwires fitted with grenades at mobile communication base stations. This is slowing down the process of restoring connectivity, but rescue workers and mobile network operators are working 24/7.

Earlier, it was reported that the occupiers had blown up Ukrainian operators’ mobile communication towers in at least two villages in Kherson Oblast.
