Ukrenergo emphasises that the gradual reconstruction of the energy system is ongoing, and repair teams are working round the clock. Household consumers are also being connected to the grid.

"In order to maintain the balance in the system under such circumstances, the Ukrenergo dispatch centre has informed each oblast energy company how much energy it is allowed to consume during the day," the energy regulator added.

The oblast energy companies, in turn, independently determine the blackout schedule for consumers. There is sufficient electricity in the system to alternate the energy supply restrictions optimally and equitably in each oblast and the city of Kyiv, Ukrenergo said.

"Please don’t forget that we need to consume energy economically. This will allow us to reduce restrictions aimed at preventing accidents, and will also give our engineers a chance to concentrate on repairing damaged facilities on which the energy supply of entire oblasts depends," Ukrenergo concluded.

Background:

All four of the operating Ukrainian nuclear power plants regained access to the national grid again after a total blackout at the beginning of the week.

After all of Ukraine’s nuclear power plants went off the grid on Wednesday, 23 November, it was reported that they were expected to be back online to supply the grid by Thursday night, which would significantly reduce the energy shortfall.

On Thursday, 24 November, following a total blackout due to the massive Russian attack the day before, the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant was supplied with power from the Ukrainian energy system. The power units of the Rivne, Pivdennoukrainsk and Khmelnytskyi power plants were restarted.
