Shevchenko University buildings significantly damaged in Kyiv attack

Buildings on the Exhibition campus of the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv have suffered significant damage as a result of the Russian missile attack on 31 December.

The University noted that this time, the damage caused by the missile is several times greater than the Taras Shevchenko National University suffered in the large-scale missile attack in the centre of Kyiv on 10 October, which damaged the buildings of the main (Red) academic building, the Institute of Philology (Yellow Building), the Maksymovych Research Library, the Faculty of Chemistry, and the greenhouse of the Fomin Botanical Garden.

The university appealed to its partners, and anyone who wishes to help, to give donations for the reconstruction of the buildings.

Background:

  • On 31 December, the Russians carried out another large-scale missile attack on Ukraine.
  • In Kyiv, 1 person was killed and 22 injured. In the Holosiivsky district, an outbuilding and a car were damaged; the Hotel Adler, a private residential building, was damaged in the Solomianskyi district; in the Pechersk district, Russian missiles damaged the Alfavito Hotel, five floors of which were destroyed, and minor damage was caused to nearby buildings; missile debris was found on the street in the Dniprovskyi district.
  • In addition, on the night of 31 December, air defence forces shot down 32 air targets over the city of Kyiv during the Russian attack. Missile debris fell onto the road in Dniprovskyi district.
