Quote: "Russia will be the beneficiary of the situation because it will be cheaper than to pay for the grain from Ukraine transported to the Baltic ports, the cost of this operation will always be higher than what Russia can offer on the global market."

Details: The European commissioner stressed that the EU's assistance in compensating for the cost of transit of Ukrainian grain through the territory of EU member states is an urgent issue since transportation by land is more expensive than by sea.

Wojciechowski assured that he would prepare a proposal for the European Commission to subsidise the cost of transporting Ukrainian grain at the expense of EU funds.

Background:

  • Ukraine has been forced to export its agrarian products by land and river after Russia's withdrawal from the Black Sea Grain Initiative and attacks on Ukrainian ports, with sea exports blocked l.
  • US Department of State warned Ukraine that Russia may be getting ready for a false flag operation in the Black Sea amidst the attacks on port infrastructure in Ukraine's south. James Cleverly, the UK Foreign Minister, warned Ukraine about this, too.
