Portuguese President: It is impossible to separate issue of Crimea from broader context of Russian invasion

Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, President of Portugal, has urged the international society not to separate the issue of the occupied Crimea from the general context of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Quote: "It is impossible to separate the issue of Crimea from the global attack and invasion of Ukrainian territory. Any attempt to separate these two issues demonstrates not support, not assistance to the Ukrainian people, but a construction of an unnecessary obstacle to the restoration of the territorial integrity of Ukraine," de Sousa emphasised.

The second important point he insisted on is that we must remember that it is always primarily about human dignity, because this problem concerns not only international or constitutional law, but first and foremost the people.

"We, the politicians, received a mandate not to meet our needs, not for national pride, but to solve the problems of ordinary people, so that human dignity is respected. And all this concerns the problem of Crimea," said the President of Portugal.

Earlier: On 23 August, the third summit of the Crimean Platform took place in Kyiv. Among the top guests who personally arrived in Ukraine are Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda, Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, and Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo.
