The director of the IAEA reports that the Zaporizhzia NPP has completed drilling ten wells for underground water, which should cool the plant's shut-down reactors after the destruction of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant in June.

"Over 200 cubic meters of water can now be supplied to the sprinkler ponds that cool the ZNPP’s six reactors and spent fuel," the report says.

The IAEA also informed that another well is planned to be drilled at the site. The additional well will provide approximately 250 cubic meters of water per hour to maintain the cooling of reactors and spent nuclear fuel storage pools in their current shut-down state.

It is noted that the cooling pond of the Zaporizhzhia NPP remains intact and contains a large volume of water, which can also provide cooling of the shut-down reactors of the Zaporizhzhia NPP for many months.

In addition, during their tour of Zaporizhzhia NPP, IAEA experts visited the main control panels of power units Nos 2, 5 and 6, where they saw that power units Nos 2 and 5 remain in a state of "cold" shutdown, and power unit No 6 – in the state of "hot" shutdown.

The IAEA is also concerned about the station's staffing, as since the beginning of the big war, many personnel have left Zaporizhzhia NPP, including licensed operators from the main block control panels.

Note:

Law enforcement agencies and independent researchers, including international journalists, collected numerous reports of torture and inhumane treatment committed by the Russian occupation force during the occupation of the Zaporizhzhia NPP and the satellite city of Enerhodar. Rosatom was aware of this.
