He added that he invited the head of the European Council to visit Ukraine.

In his turn, Michel said that in the conversation with Zelenskyy, they discussed the events on the battlefield in Ukraine and "the continued support of the Ukrainian people after the EU summit and the EU-US summit".

"I reaffirmed the EU’s unwavering commitment to long-term financial, military and humanitarian assistance for as long as needed," he added.

As it is known, in November, the European Commission is to publish an assessment of Ukraine's progress towards EU membership, and it is expected to be positive. Based on this assessment, the leaders of the association should decide on the next step in December: the opening of membership negotiations.

Background: Earlier, Annalena Berbock, the German Foreign Minister, hinted at a positive decision regarding Ukraine's move to the European Union from the EU leaders at the summit in December.
