Moldovan president on threats of destabilisation from Russia: We still have vulnerabilities

Moldovan President Maia Sandu has said her country is trying to protect itself from the risks of destabilisation from Russia, but there are still some vulnerabilities.

Details: Sandu mentioned that Russia might try to destabilise the situation in the country this spring in the midst of the campaign for the presidential election.

"We know that Russia will resume its actions this spring to try to destabilise the situation," the Moldovan president said.

Sandu stressed that the Moldovan authorities are aware of these risks and are taking all measures to prevent these disruptive actions.

"We are informing citizens about these risks, as we did last year when Russia intended to overthrow the government (during protests organised by pro-Russian forces – ed.). We are seeking to protect ourselves from these risks together with citizens and state institutions, but we still have work to do; we still have vulnerabilities," Sandu added.

The Moldovan presidential elections are scheduled for autumn 2024.

Earlier, Sandu said it was essential to maintain support for Ukraine, as Russia might spread its aggression to other countries.
