The funds confiscated from the illegal arms trade will be transferred from the US to Estonia, and they will be allocated to Ukraine.

The United States confiscated these funds after the disclosure of an illegal procurement network that tried to bring to Russia high-precision American-made machines used in the defence sector and for proliferation of nuclear weapons.

A Latvian citizen accused of this procurement scheme pleaded guilty to violating US export laws and regulations.

This transfer is the first transfer of funds from the United States to a foreign ally with the direct purpose of helping Ukraine and the second time that the US Department of Justice's KleptoCapture Task Force provided confiscated Russian assets to Ukraine: last year, the Department transferred US$5.4 million of seized funds to the US State Department to support Ukrainian war veterans.

The confiscated funds are transferred to Estonia, as the facts of this case do not allow for a direct transfer to Ukraine.

Estonia will use these funds for a project to speed up damage assessment and critical repairs to the Ukrainian electricity distribution and transmission system, which has become a target for Russian forces.
