Ukraine has lost almost US$20 billion in culture and tourism sectors due to war

Losses in Ukraine's culture and tourism sector, including lost revenue, have amounted to US$19.6 billion. These are estimates from the Ukrainian-controlled territories and those that have been liberated.

Details: Kharkiv, Donetsk, and Odesa oblasts have suffered the most from Russian attacks on cultural heritage. The Russians have targeted over 900 historical and cultural sites.

In addition, over 20,000 cultural monuments of national and local significance are currently under Russian occupation.

Shmyhal added that US$8.9 billion is required for the long-term recovery of the damaged and destroyed property.

Background: Over the next decade, Ukraine will need about US$9 billion to rebuild its cultural sites and tourism industry.
