Ukraine's state-run energy trader doubles electricity imports due to Russian strikes on energy assets
Joint-Stock Company Energy Company of Ukraine (ECU) has doubled its daily electricity imports from the EU on average since mid-March to offset losses in Ukraine's power grid.

Details: It is noted that the state-owned energy trader is continuing to import electricity from Slovakia and Romania and began importing electricity from Hungary in March.
At present, the company is the second-largest importer of electricity to Ukraine.
"Ukraine, jointly with the EU, has significantly increased its technical and organisational capabilities for electricity imports over the past two years, which now plays a crucial role in the stable energy supply to consumers.
Given the continuing large-scale attacks on energy assets, the Ukrainian government continues to actively cooperate with European partners to obtain additional import opportunities," said Vitalii Butenko, CEO of the ECU.
Background: Thanks to the synchronisation of the Ukrainian power grid with the ENTSO-E Continental Europe power grid, Ukraine was able to receive 27,000 MWh of emergency assistance and attract 285,000 MWh of imports as support during the winter.
