"I have to see an enthusiasm to want to end it. And I think I see that enthusiasm. I think I see it from both sides," he added.

Trump dismissed the suggestion that Russia is deceiving him within these peace efforts.

"Nobody is playing me. I'm trying to help, you know, this was Biden's war by the way... this is not Trump's war... This is a war that should have never happened," Trump remarked.

Background:

  • Earlier, Trump confirmed that he may give up attempts to broker a peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia in the absence of progress, although he did not specify the conditions under which this would happen.
  • US Secretary of State Marco Rubio informed NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte during a phone call that the United States is prepared to withdraw from its mediating efforts to establish peace in Ukraine if a clear path to peace does not emerge soon.
